News items have been appearing in a section of press to the effect that the State Government has overturned its earlier position regarding allotment of the 960 MW Jangi-Thopan-Powari project to M/s Brakel Corporation, NV.
A spokesman of the State Government said here today that this interpretation of the affidavit filed by the State Government in the Supreme Court was a mis-representation of the facts in the newspapers. Following the High Court decision, requiring the cancellation of the allotment of this project to M/s Brakel Corporation, the State Government had taken a decision not to challenge this decision. However, it was also decided on 22.10.2009 itself that in case other parties approach the Supreme Court, the State Government would put forward its point of view before the Court.
The spokesman said that now both parties affected by the cancellation of the project, M/s Brakel Corporation and the Reliance (Anil Ambani) Group have approached the Supreme Court for relief. Accordingly, State Government has decided to reiterate the grounds that led to the decision to allot the project to M/s Brakel Corporation and not to rebid the project at this stage.
The spokesman said that the State Government has outlined the entire history of the case in the affidavit filed in response to the Court wanting to know the position of the State Government. No change has been made in the position already taken by the State Government in the case before the High Court, he added.
