HIMACHAL: NEXT STOP FOR YOUR FILM

 

Blessed with immenwse matural beauty, serene environment, the hilly state of Himachal Praesh has always reamined a big attraction to the film makers from different parts of the world.  Himachal has several scenic locations which are ideal to the film makers especially in the remote belts and the State Government is making all-out efforts to develop these sites to facilitate the tourists and film-makers.

The film fraternity has always been excited about filming in Himachal. A number of films have been shot in Himachal Pradesh and many of which have been big succeess like  Anbe Vaa, Badrinath , Bang Bang!, Black,  Heena, Kudrat, Dev.D, Enthiran, Highway , Jab We Met, Liar's Dice, Lootera, Love in Simla, Raaz: The Mystery Continues, Rani Padmini, Roja, Ship of Theseus, Young Malang etc.

The state government is playing a proactive role in promoting film tourism by supporting film makers. A single window clearance system has been set up to assist the film makers for granting the shooting and building permissions, law and order related issues and movement of equipment at their level. Directorate of information and Public Relations is the nodal agency for issuing various permissions for film shooting in the state.

Department of Tourism has been appointed as a nodal agency for granting the permissions. A nodal agency/officer for purposes of promoting and facilitating film shooting will also be appointed in the state. Familiarization (FAM) tours for foreign filmmakers would also be facilitated by the support of the state government. Further, the state government is also exploring possibilities of setting up of film studio in the state for promoting film tourism in the state.

Cinema, apart from being a source of healthy entertainment, also provides a huge scope for income and employment generation and efforts would be made to facilitate and promote establishment of cinema screens in the state. In this regard, simplification of procedures and permissions for setting up of theatres and conversion of single screen into multiplexes will be considered by the government.

National film heritage mission has been launched to preserve the country's rich filmic heritage and to make available to our future generation. The aim of the mission is to digitize and restore feature films and short films. State government will facilitate the acquisition and storage of historic footage, documentaries lying with royal families, political families and such other filmic material which adds to cinematic heritage. State would also locate and deposit all available filmic material in National Film Archive of India(NFAI) vaults for preservation and restoration.

The state government is pursuing the matter of getting the air strips located at Shimla, Kullu and Dharamshala to be extended and upgraded, so that regular flights can be made operational. This would provide additional facility for film makers and would also boost tourism in the state. The best way to promote tourism is to promote it through films. Complimentary facilities and rebates etc. would also be offered to film makers if they decide to use government facilities like accommodation, transportation or equipment.

The State had been organising film festivals and other film related activities at various places from time to time with an objective of promoting Cine Media.

State is being promoted as a filming destination and encouraging film tourism both for revenue generation and also for creation of employment especially in less developed and less travelled areas. The young and gifted graduates are not only looking for employment opportunities but also opportunities to gain experience on field. Many young film makers from the state are entering the field of film production.Mandi is known as the capital of actors which has the only acting institute in Himachal Pradesh, Whereas Gaiety Theatre in Shimla inspire people every day to choose acting as their career.
