2162 BPL families to be provided with off grid power plants in Pangi valley of District Chamba

Emphasizing on making every part of the state self energy efficient, the State Government is making all out effort in this direction. The tribal areas of the state are often deprived of power energy due to harsh weather conditions resulting in breakage of transmission line and other issues.

To scale up action on energy efficiency and to mitigate power crisis in winters in tribal areas the state government is setting up off grid solar power plant and micro hydel projects in such areas. Pangi valley of District Chamba is one such tribal area where an initiative has been started to provide electricity to poor families, under which 250 watt solar energy system is being provided to the people of the area.

HIMURJA is setting up solar energy plant of 250 watt, which provides power to 4 to 5 LED tubes of 9 watt, which lasts for more than 5 hours and LED television of 40 watt works upto 4 hours and also charges mobile phones.

In the year 2020-21 about thousand BPL families were provided with 250 watt off grid solar power plant free of cost with an expenditure of approximately Rs. 3 crore 83 lakh 78 thousand in Pangi valley of District Chamba. About 2162 BPL families would be distributed the off grid solar power plant in this financial year out of which about one thousand families have already been provided with the off grid solar power plant. HIMURJA has set a target of distributing and setting up of these power plants by November, 2021 in Pangi Valley.

The programme to achieve this year's target  for setting up the off grid solar power plant at Pangi Valley was launched by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur recently in Chamba district.

Two service centre have also been set up for repair and maintenance of the off grid solar plant and local people have been trained and hired for this purpose. The State Government is also making effort to cover families other than BPL families under the programme.
