Applications invited for National Awards to children for bravery

The Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) has invited applications for National Awards to Children for bravery for the year 2016.

A Spokesperson of the ICCW said here today that the last date of submission of application has been fixed for 30 September, 2016. The incidents which had occurred between 1st July, 2015 and 30 June, 2016 would be considered for the award, however, the selection committee could relax the date by a maximum period of three months at its discretion.

He said the nominations would be received in the prescribed application form accompanied by write-up of 250 words giving the details of the deed performed by the applicant, proof of date of birth, news clippings or the FIR or police diary filed with the police station. The applicant should not be below 6 years and above 18 years of age on the date of the incident.

He said that the main criteria for the selection of candidates would be the performance of a distinct and visible act of bravery in the face of an impending threat of injury or danger to life or an act of courage and daring against a social evil/ crime.

The Spokesperson said that application should be recommended by Principal, Headmaster of Schools in which the applicant is studying or head of panchayat or Zila Parishad, General Secretary, President of State Council for Child Welfare, District Collector or official of equivalent rank, Superintendent of Police of the area or police official of higher rank.

He said that the awards would be presented by the Prime Minister prior to the Republic Day. The recipients would also be felicitated by the prominent dignitaries like the President of India. He said that the children would also be given an opportunity to participate in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

The awardees would receive a medal, certificate and cash award besides gifts from philanthropic organizations. The eligible awardees are granted assistance until they complete their schooling. The ICCW also provides financial assistance under its scholarship scheme to those undertaking professional courses such as engineering and medicine and to others till they complete their graduation.
