Governor emphasises on spreading awareness of viral Hepatitis

                      

On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day today, Governor Bandaru Dattatraya emphasized on the need of spreading awareness regarding this disease.  He said that this day is commemorated each year to enhance awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that may lead to liver cancer.

Urging citizens of Himachal Pradesh on World Hepatitis Day, the Governor asked people to take pledge to raise awareness to achieve the goal of Hepatitis free State. Quoting the report of World Health Organization, Sh. Dattatraya said that 10 percent of people living with hepatitis B and 19 percent living with hepatitis C are aware of their hepatitis status and millions of people are unaware that they are living with preventable and treatable Hepatitis.

He said that thousands of new patients of hepatitis are reported every year due to lack of prevention. He said that being well-informed about the viral hepatitis is the first step of prevention. Hepatitis B and C virus infections are the major causes of liver diseases worldwide and we should take measures to prevent this.

He said that the measures to prevent the infection among newborns are being taken in the State by giving Hepatitis B Vaccinations at birth, stopping transmission from mother to child by routine testing for Hepatitis B, HIV and syphilis and treatment, if required and treatment of people who inject drugs besides expanding access to timely testing and treatment to all.
