Bhakra Fisheries Cooperative Society gets National Award

Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Virender Kunwar has congratulated the state Fisheries department and Bhakra Fisheries Cooperative Society for getting National Award for best management of the Fish Landing Centre of the Bhakra Fisheries Cooperative Society of the Govind Sagar reservoir in Bilaspur district.

He said it was a matter of pride that a small hilly state like Himachal Pradesh has won this Award while competing with other big states of the country. He said this would encourage the youth to adopt fisheries in order to strengthen their livelihood.

The Award was presented by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) during two-day fish festival organised at Vishakhapatnam on 9-10 July, 2018. A cash prize of Rs. 51,000, memento and appreciation letter was given to the Society under this Award. The Fish Landing Centre at Govind Sagar reservoir had been made hi-tech so that the fishes could be preserved for a longer period.

It is worth mentioning that Bhakra Cooperative Society was established in December, 1979 and today it has 360 members and as many as 118 license holders are earning their livelihood through fisheries sector.
