CM launches ‘MUSKAAN’ Yojna to save girl child

Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh honouring  the mothers of new born girl child during a function organised at Shimla 20  October 2016.

In order to overcome the issue of female foeticide and low sex ratio in seven districts of the State viz. Chamba, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul & Spiti, Shimla, Sirmour and Solan, Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh here today launched the ‘MUSKAAN’ Yojna, an initiative of Social Justice and Empowerment Department to save the girl child.

The Chief Minister also honoured the mothers of new born girl child on the occasion and presented them gifts.

He said that it was very important to improve the sex ratio and create awareness in the society regarding improving the birth rate and understanding the importance of the girl child. 

The Government has launched intensive campaign in the State through anganwari workers for improving the sex ratio and for mandatory registration of pregnancies in these districts latest in tenth week of pregnancy.  The Anganwari workers will have to ensure that the pregnancies were registered not only in their respective centres but also in the health sub centres in that particular village, stated Director, Social Justice and Empowerment, Smt. Mansi Sahai.  

The Gram Panchayat with low sex ratio would be identified and included in the red alert Panchayats and awareness through counseling of newly wedded couples.  In addition to this, ‘Gudda-Guddi’ boards containing information of new born girl child and the figure of girls in the district would be displayed, she briefed.

She said that the multiple agencies like Health, Education, Revenue, Rural Development etc. would be involved for sensitizing the people with the help of district administration.  Besides, the mothers of new born girl child would be honoured by the Chief Minister.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. (Col) Dhani Ram Shandil, Chief Secretary Shri V.C. Pharka, Principal Advisor to Chief Minister Shri T.G. Negi, Secretary Social Justice and Empowerment, Smt. Anuradha Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Shimla Shri Rohan Thakur and others were also present on the occasion amongst other officers.
