State proud of brave soldiers: Governor

Governor Acharya Devvrat said that our country was not deprived of warriors and those nations were great whose youth were always ready to make supreme sacrifices for the country. He was speaking in the programme 'Veer Yodha' organized by Cidar Films at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla last evening to mark the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Paying homage to the Kargil martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of motherland, Acharya Devvrat said that people of the country were proud of the sons of the soil who brought laurels to the nation while fighting and guarding the frontiers on the heights of Kargil. He said that despite all the difficult circumstances, our courageous soldiers gave a befitting reply to the intruders which ensured a decisive victory in Kargil. He added that today, they were the source of inspiration for future generations. He urged the youth to keep up the tradition of nationalism.

Expressing gratitude to soldiers, their kin and wives, he said that we should remember thousands of families that lost their loved ones because of their belief in serving the country and commitment to protect us.  He added that we must think of them and give them and their families the honour they deserve.

Acharya Devvrat said that young soldiers from Himachal Pradesh had shown exemplary courage and made supreme sacrifices during Kargil conflict.  He said that people of Himachal Pradesh were proud of the sons of the State who made supreme sacrifices during Kargil as well as in other operations that took place in the past to guard the frontiers of the Nation. He said that 52 soldiers, attained martyrdom in the ‘Operation Vijay’ and added that out of four Param Veer Chakras awarded during the ‘Operation Vijay’, two were won by soldiers from Himachal Pradesh, Capt. Vikram Batra and Hav. Sanjay Kumar.

He said that our brave soldiers were capable to guard the frontiers of the Nation and were always ready to fight against any odds. He said that people of the country would always remember the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs.

Earlier, the Governor also released a souvenir 'Veer Yodha' published by Cidar Films. He also honoured 16 brave soldiers from the State.

On the occasion, school children presented a programme based on the theme of patriotism.
