Tender process for construction of Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools to be commenced in June, 2023 : CM

Presides over meeting of Education Department

Chief Minister, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the Public Works Department to commence the tender process for the construction of 10 Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools in the month of June, 2023 so that construction work of these schools could be started at the earliest.

He was presiding over a meeting of Education Department here last evening. He said that the state government has decided to open a Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding School in every Vidhan Sabha constituency in a phased manner with a provision in the budget and 10 schools will be constructed in the first phase. He said that land for construction of Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools in Nadaun, Badsar, Palampur, Jaisinghpur, Shahpur, Jawali, Jaswan-Pragpur, Jubbal-Kotkhai, Kinnaur and Haroli assembly constituencies has been transferred in the name of the Education Department and these schools will serve as model for providing quality education in the State. He said that site-specific DPRs for these buildings will be prepared.

Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that blocks of pre-nursery to fifth class would be constructed in the first phase with a target of completion in 18 months. He said that Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools will have all the modern facilities for the children for better personality development, which will instill self-confidence in them and will equip them in a better way for meeting the future challenges. Teachers in Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools would be appointed on secondment basis. These schools will be affiliated with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) with the special focus on quality education, he added.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is bringing reforms in the education system and starting of Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools is a positive initiative in this direction. These schools will have better infrastructure, quality education and adequate facilities for sports activities besides extra-curricular activities.

Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also directed the Education Department to prepare a concept paper regarding these schools and said that he would hold a review meeting in this regard shortly.

The Chief Minister said that the Congress in its manifesto has promised to provide quality education to the students in the State. He said that English medium schools will also be run in each assembly constituency for which the Education Department should start preparations.

Education Minister, Rohit Thakur, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Ashish Butail, Chief Secretary, Prabodh Saxena, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Bharat Khera, Principal Secretary Finance, Maneesh Garg, Secretary Education, Dr. Abhishek Jain and other senior officers of the Education Department were present in the meeting.
