The Himachal Pradesh Him Mahotsav, a 15-day extravaganza celebrating the state’s cultural heritage, crafts, and cuisine, concluded with immense success late last evening at Dilli Haat, New Delhi.
It was organized by the Himachal Pradesh government in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The event not only showcased the state's artistic legacy but also facilitated Rs 2 crore business for local artisans. The festival served as a platform for artisans to connect with a broader audience, fostering economic growth alongside cultural preservation.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, who attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “The Him Mahotsav has bridged the gap between Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural traditions and the modern commercial world. It has successfully created new business opportunities for artisans while honouring the state’s diverse handicrafts, traditional attire, and cuisine.” He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in ensuring that traditional craftsmanship thrives alongside contemporary commerce.
R.D. Nazeem, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries Department, praised the overwhelming response from visitors, noting that it reflected growing nation's interest in Himachali crafts. He emphasized that this success would open new opportunities for artisans and further strengthen Himachal's presence on the national arena.
The festival featured 60 stalls where artisans exhibited a wide range of handcrafted products, including woollen shawls, Chamba rumals, Kangra paintings, and traditional jewellery. Additionally, Himachali Dham, the state’s renowned cuisine, captivated visitors with its authentic flavours, further enriching the cultural experience. Celebrating Himachal’s vibrant cultural traditions, the event featured spectacular performances such as the Gaddi dance from Kangra and the Nati from Sirmaur. The grand finale also saw a Himachali fashion show showcasing the region’s traditional attire, which became a key highlight of the festival.
The festival generated Rs 2 crore business offering a significant economic boost to artisans from remote areas of Himachal Pradesh. Direct interaction with visitors allowed them to expand their market reach, enhancing their financial stability and providing exposure to a broader audience.
The Him Mahotsav has become a beacon of hope for Himachali artisans, blending traditional art forms with modern commerce. By providing a national platform for Himachal’s rich heritage, the festival helped ensure the preservation and growth of these cultural treasures for future generations.
OSD to Chief Minister KS Banshtu, Resident Commissioner Meera Mohanty, Managing Director of Himcrafts Corporation Gandharv Rathore were present among other senior officials.
